Porcelain Tile

With our vast array of colors, textures, patterns and shapes of porcelain tile, you will find your perfect style. Porcelain tile can be glazed or unglazed to provide a matte, semi-gloss, or high-gloss finish. Our tile comes in a large selection of vibrant to neutral colors, as well as many shapes such as rectangles, circles, diamonds, octagons and more. We will guide you in making the best choices for the application in your home or office.

Porcelain tiles have pigment baked all the way through the tile, known as color body porcelain, so a chip is less noticeable. Porcelain tile has a wet/dry coefficient of no more than .5° which makes it waterproof and can be used in commercial applications when you need a non-slip surface.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is affordable, easy to install and easy to maintain, so it’s a good option for many environments. Ceramic tile should not be used for exterior projects when the temperature drops below freezing because it doesn’t withstand fluctuation in temperature well; however, it is moisture resistant, which makes it ideal for interior floors, counter tops, tub surrounds, bathroom and kitchen backsplashes and showers.

Ceramic tile doesn’t typically carry the color of the tile through the body like porcelain tile, so if the tile gets chipped, the flaw will be noticeable.

What is the average time it takes to install tile flooring?

Due to the scope of work, each project has differing timelines. However, the typical installation of a tile flooring job takes 3-7 days. Some factors that can make a job take more or less time are as follows; moving of furniture and/or appliances, demo, removing and replacing toilets, removing and replacing baseboards, number and size of rooms, stairs, etc.

What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain?

The fundamental difference between ceramic tile and porcelain tile is the technology behind how it is made. Porcelain is the result of a more controlled manufacturing process than ordinary ceramic tiles. It is made through a mixture of porcelain and various minerals burned at over 1200 degrees Celsius. The resulting outcome is denser and more resistant than conventional ceramics. Porcelain is less porous with a very low water absorption index, making it more durable as well. This feature makes it suitable for high traffic locations. Ceramic, in turn, is composed of a mixture of clay and some minerals. Due to the slight variations and irregularities, it may yield a more interesting aesthetic result. Whether you go with ceramic or porcelain, they are considered one of the most durable flooring options as they are essentially waterproof and very scratch resistant.

Is tile durable and long lasting?

Yes, tile is considered one of the most durable and longest lasting flooring materials. The longevity of tile heavily depends on the quality of installation. To optimize durability, the subfloor or base on which the tiling will be glued must be flat, stable, and without irregularities. Depending on the dimensions of each tile, the proper mortar must be used. For larger pieces, manufacturers recommend double flying on the subfloor and the back of the tile. At Weaver Carpets, all of our installers have worked in the industry for many years and are well versed in the flooring that they are installing.

What are the Pros and Cons of tile?

Pros:
  • Durable: Tole is one of the most durable flooring options out there, thanks to the firing and glazing process that makes it so tough.
  • Stylish: Since tile can take on basically any color, shape or size, there’s end to the style possibilities.
  • Easy to clean: Tile doesn’t require any special cleaning products. Simply sweep and mop tile flooring, and scrub tile walls to keep the surface looking great.
  • Low maintenance: No need to polish or refinish! Your tile will maintain its beauty without a lot of hassle.
Cons
  • Difficult installation: Unless you spend a lot of your free time laying tile, you probably won’t have the experience to perfectly tile your floor. Professional installation is often recommended.
  • Cost of installation: due to the amount of time it takes to install tile correctly, it makes the cost of installation higher than other flooring types.

Is tile considered “non-slip”?

If you are concerned about “non-slip” in your area, you need to make sure you are selecting the correct tile option. Ceramic tiles get slippery when wet, but porcelain tiles tend not to be as slippery as it gets slightly gritty when wet and is a better option for kitchens, bathrooms and entryways.
